Germs on Shopping Carts A Study by Inside Edition tested 30 carts at nine stores. This is an excerpt from that article."The syndicated newsmagazine tested carts with young children in them, swabbing and focusing on the areas most likely touched, like the handles and areas around the seats. The swabs were sent to an independent lab and tested for bacteria and fungus that can cause disease. Inside Edition's lab found several types of bacteria and fungus that could cause disease, especially in people with fragile immune systems like children. The most serious bacteria found was enteroccocus facaelis indicating the presence of fecal matter. Dr. Reynolds tells Inside Edition she wasn't surprised by the results. She had tested shopping carts as part of a university study on germs. . "Our study and your study seem to indicate that shopping carts are frequently contaminated." On some carts, Dr. Reynolds found bodily fluids like blood, mucus and saliva. She says the shopping carts she tested were dirtier than public bathrooms. "The fact is, bathrooms are frequently cleaned and disinfected, shopping carts are not," Dr. Reynolds told Inside Edition. Quoted from Inside Edition. Scientific studies have found all sorts of potentially dangerous bacteria lurking on shopping carts — cold and flu germs, salmonella, strep, hepatitis B and even E. coli from leaky diapers." Quoted from http://health.coloradosprings.com/fullStory.jsp?id=3819 Don't risk your baby being exposed to those germs. Choose a padded Shopping Cart Cover that covers the ENTIRE area of the seat your baby is exposed to. Do NOT use the cart belt to fasten your baby in. Choose a Shopping cart cover with a belt on both sides, one to strap to baby and one for the cart, so that you don't have gapping holes in the back for baby to be exposed to the germs. Always use the same side of the shopping cart cover for the seat, and wash your cover often to prevent germs from mulitplying quickly in a hot car. Keeping your cover in a bag will prevent you from spreading the germs, too. The Delighted Childs Posh Baby Shopping Cart Covers are perfect for this. They wash easily, slip on with one hand, feature two safety belts, and cover the entire seat. Your baby's health is OUR buisness! |
